Mutilation

It’s official: Mutilation is unlocked! Wow! Now this towering pile of congealed people is going to be terrorizing every investigator’s game board come next year!

Thank you so much to every backer who has decided to be a part of Deep Madness. You have made this crazy ride a dream come true for us. (No, seriously. We really did mean dream, not nightmare.) Because of you we have been able to unlock just about everything we’ve wanted to bring to you all. In fact, after the scenario creation kit program at $1,350k, we only have one further stretch goal for you. May we present a little bit of relief from the madness?

JACOB CLARKE – THE RELIEF EXPERT

Jacob has faced indescribable horrors before. He has stared absolute madness in the face, and he has somehow survived. However, he did not emerge intact.

When Jacob last encountered evils similar to those loosed in Kadath, his wife was one of the victims. Every night he sees her face. And every night she is screaming. The terrors that plague him have kept him separate from normal life for years. After all, how can you accept “society” when you see it’s just an eggshell ready to crack?

Upon returning from his disastrous mission, Jacob found himself in the middle of a relentless investigation as officials tried to pin the losses on him. When nothing could be made to stick, Jacob was at last ordered to undergo regular counseling and evaluations to “better assess his mental health.” Jacob has learned how to put on a good front for the counselor, in turn keeping him and those listening from knowing how much Jacob has actually unearthed. In fact, Jacob has been building a network for years of people who are trying to expose the truth. They know that The Church of the Golden Dawn was behind the disaster that killed Jacob’s wife, and they know they are trying something new at a secret facility under the Pacific. They have seen the ties to the Leng Corporation, and they have even finally discovered the location of the base. Now Jacob is gathering together the weapons and equipment he has modified or constructed over the years to combat these unfathomable terrors, and he is heading in a submersible to the facility. He will not let these things get loose on the surface. He’s going to finish this once and for all.

Jacob is one of our favorite investigators. And he is also our very last stretch goal at $1,400k. Do you think we can unlock him and completely unleash the entirety of Deep Madness? I think we can! This is the final stretch, guys! We’re almost there! Let’s not stop until we’ve unlocked ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!

Scenario Creation Kit Is Unlocked!
over 9 years ago – Mon, Nov 14, 2016 at 07:14:44 PM

The creation kit will be a software, we are still working on the details whether it is web based or just an app.

The Scenario Creation Kit gives you the tools you need to:

• Edit maps and other map elements.

• Edit scenario-related components.

• Build your own scenario with its own unique story!

These scenarios will also be sharable to the rest of the Deep Madness community in the future, so your work could very well be seen by thousands of your fellow players!

We’ll show you more of the included cards, dashboards and UI elements that will be included later. However, we can tell you right now that it will include investigator dashboards, monster cards, search cards and more!

The Ultimate Stretch Goal Has Been Unlocked

We hit every single stretch goal that we wanted to bring to you all! You heard that right: not only did we hit Mutilation and the Scenario Creation Kit, but we also hit Jacob Clarke, the Relief Expert! Against all odds, you guys made it happen! The entire game is unlocked! How is that for incredible?

Now Enjoy The Party!

Thank You So Much! We Did It!
over 9 years ago – Mon, Nov 14, 2016 at 07:14:40 PM

Four weeks ago we launched Deep Madness with a hope that it would find an audience and that we would be able to bring our game to the world. We had no idea how those weeks would go. All we had was the belief that we had something special to offer, and a crazy dream (some might call it mad) to present a truly unique gaming experience to a bunch of people who enjoy this stuff as much as we do.

And then you came along. Suddenly we were funded in 66 minutes. Then we reached $200,000 within a few hours. Then we reached $300,000 by the next day. And now we have come at last to the conclusion of our Kickstarter. Our final total was $1,438,293. We had 9,566 backers deem to honor us with their hard-earned finances. And now we don’t just have an audience: we have a community.

Thank you so much. Because for all of our efforts, it would never have happened without you. You shared us on social media. You commented in our posts. You spread the word. And, most of all, you embraced us and a little game called Deep Madness with your money, your kind words, your ideas and your enthusiasm. We are humbled, and we are immeasurably grateful.

SO WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

Kickstarter will take a couple of weeks to get us the money. During the first week they will process everyone’s pledges, and contact anyone who might have payment issues. Then during the second week they’ll start getting all the appropriate balls rolling, and finally we will receive the funds they’ve collected. And what will we be doing during that time? Well, first of all we’re going to sleep. (We haven’t had much of that the past month. =) Then we might take a little time to relax. And then we’re going to jump right back into sculpting, writing, developing, and making Deep Madness the game that you have all come to expect it to be.

We’re going to keep you all in the loop on what’s going on, too. Expect for us to be pestering you pretty regularly with updates. We know how frustrating it can be to not hear from a project you’ve backed for months on end, so if we’ve got something to fill you in on, we will. We’ve tried to build this campaign on good communication, and we’re going to try to keep that going all the way through fulfillment.

Speaking of fulfillment, how about that pledge manager? Well, as of right now our guess is that we’ll have it open in early 2017. That might seem like a long time to wait, but with all of the moving pieces involved with this game it might take us a while to get everything ready and all of the kinks ironed out. We would prefer to under-promise and be able to surprise you early rather than over-promise and not have it come out until the end of January.

We hope that we can stay together as a community for fun, support, and sharing whatever monstrous scenarios you created. There is the official Facebook page, and a Facebook group, and a subreddit created by our backers, could be a good place to hang out. We will publish regular updates to keep you guys posted on the project, and to keep in touch with the wonderful people here.

AND ONCE MORE, THANK YOU!

With all of our hearts, thank you. We can’t say enough how beyond grateful we are for your investment in us, and we don’t just mean financially. Keep up the comments. Keep the community going. Visit us on Facebook. Let’s not lose touch. You have all been so fantastic throughout this campaign, and we owe you an immense debt of gratitude.

You’re as much a part of Deep Madness now as we are. So welcome to the team, investigator. What eldritch horrors await us around the next bend? Let’s go find out. =)

The Physics of Insatiable Hunger
over 9 years ago – Tue, Nov 08, 2016 at 07:51:37 PM

We are about to unlock a new investigator, and he is a fun one! We would like to introduce you to Stephen Cooper, the physicist! Additionally, we recently unlocked a variant sculpt of the core box monster Ravenous. Let’s check it out, too!

STEPHEN COOPER - THE PHYSICIST

Stephen was sick of physics. Well, perhaps sick was the wrong term: frustrated beyond words was maybe more appropriate. Stephen had been working for years toward his big break, the discovery that would list his name alongside the greatest physicists of history. But, while others discovered particles that made the Higgs Boson look commonplace and fundamentally altered the way mankind saw reality, Stephen had been hitting his head against a proverbial brick wall.

Stephen had accepted a position in Leng’s science program several years prior, and then he had been intrigued by the possibilities of working in the brand-new science wing of the Kadath deep sea station and had transferred there. While for most people going to Kadath was the worst decision of their lives, for Stephen it became a revelatory move.

When the sphere unleashed its terrible power, Stephen initially fought for his life just like everyone else trapped on the station. But as the days passed, Stephen began to take note of something incredible that kicked his scientific brain into overdrive. He noticed that the established laws of physics were literally breaking down all around him. As fear became a tangible thing and madness became sanity, Stephen began to calculate and test and take notes. He discovered that any laws of physics above the quantum level were coming unglued, allowing the strange insanity at the quantum level to reign unchecked. Stephen might have finally found the breakthrough to put his name in the history books. The only problem is, will he survive long enough to tell anyone else?

Wielding his knowledge of Kadath’s new physics, Stephen can change the order of investigators’ actions. Not only that, but he can fold reality over on itself, allowing an investigator to move from one position to a different one entirely. Cool, huh?

RAVENOUS

You imagine that this must be what it would look like to see a hoard of zombies devour a person. At least, it’s what it would look like if the zombies were horrible mutated terrors with long tapered talons, bony protuberances and three slavering tongues. You stare in horror as the woman’s body bucks and jitters, ripped and rent by a multitude of claws and teeth and razor sharp tongues. You know it was a woman because of the long hair splayed out on the floor around the skull, even though she is now nothing more than bloody bones. They begin to eat the bones.

You slowly back away, hoping to get quietly away from these things. Unfortunately, the metal grate shifts beneath your foot as you step backward. Three of the heads feasting on the body snap up, their jaws coated in viscera. Their myriad tongues flick out as if to taste the air. And then they rise.

There’s no use for stealth now. Whirling around, you run. You learn that there is another difference between these things and zombies: they move inhumanly fast. They are closing in behind you, their metallic breath coursing over your neck. Glancing behind you, you fire blast after blast from your bolt gun, spraying the corridor behind you. And they – they dodge them. You nick one, but they keep coming.

You slam to a stop. Looking down, you see that a set of impossibly long, pointed fingers are jutting through your stomach. One of the ravening horrors lifts you up off the ground, your feet still kicking uselessly. They surround you now. Their mouths open, open, and keep opening. How is it possible one orifice can grow so very wide? The tongues snake out, tenderly dragging across your skin, savoring your taste. And then the ravenous horde feasts.

Ravenous is gluttony. It is greed. It is wild and instinctive, and it wants to feast on you and your fellow investigators. When food grew scarce and the miners were nearing the breaking point, Ravenous appeared and solved the food shortage problem. Now it wants to assist your band in the same way. Ravenous is quick, and it is agile. It will reduce an investigator’s defense, and the more Ravenous there are the more that defense will go down. If there are enough of them, it will reach a point where their prey will not be able to defend at all. What makes matters even worse is that, in devoured rooms, they also increase in resistance, becoming even harder to kill than they already were.

Ravenous wants you to join it for dinner. And it thanks you in advance for supplying the main course.

We keep getting closer to the deadline, and there are still some incredible stretch goals to reach! Keep your eyes peeled for more, share the game with anyone who will listen, and let’s see how far we can get!
