PM SG No.1 Unclocked in 24 Hours
about 9 years ago – Fri, Feb 24, 2017 at 11:01:35 PM

Hey, guys. We have unlocked the first Stretch Goal in the first 24 hours of the Pledge Manager. The upgraded sculpted Devour Marker will automatically appear in every Uncounted Horrors box (the KS-exclusive stretch goals box), replacing the former 3D Devour Marker we unlocked during the campaign. You don't need to add it to your pledge in the PM.

The upgraded Devour Marker is much bigger and detailed, we think our awesome backers deserve a better version.

We will reveal the next stretch goal soon.

Explain The Translation Packs

The translation packs are separated sets of all of the components with gaming text in that language. If you purchase them, you'll have both the original English version game and the set of components in that language. Rulebook and cards are heavy, so they have their own shipping fee. Hope that will help.

Have a good day.

Pledge Manager is Open!
about 9 years ago – Thu, Feb 23, 2017 at 11:06:05 PM

You read that right, folks!  After months of waiting, the pledge manager is officially open! Thank you all so much for your patience, and for being a part of Deep Madness!

We’ve sent out all the invitations for the pledge manager, so check your email inboxes.  Sometimes these messages can be shuffled into spam folders, so if you don’t see it in your inbox be sure to check there as well.

What’s more, late pledging is also now available!  Let all of your friends know, because they can at last be a part of Deep Madness if they missed the Kickstarter!  Here’s the link for late pledges: https://deep-madness.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders  It’s in everyone’s interest to spread the word as well, as we’ve got a couple fun surprises coming up as pledge manager stretch goals!

Stretch Goal No.1 - Upgraded Devour Marker

Unlocked when the ordered number of  Deluxe Expansion Bundle reaches 2500.  We will keep updating the number. New sculpture of the Devour Marker (40mm). This replaces the former Sculpted Devour Marker in every Uncounted Horror Expansion Box (Stretch Goal of the Investigator Pledge).

$1 Level to $100 Level

If you are a $1 Level backer and want to purchase the Investigator Pledge, please follow these steps to switch your level to $100 Investigator Pledge Level.

If you have already got into the Add-ons choosing page, please click "go back" to return to the Get Start page.

About the shipping fees for East Europe and Latin America, we are sorry that we cannot make them low enough. We don't have a hub in Europe like some big companies do, so we have to use fulfillment services. We have got the quotation from 3 different shippers, the prices for East Europe are all relatively higher than we predicted, we even swallow all the VAT. Please consider that with all the SGs, the package is quite heavy and large. For Latin America, we have to use International Express to deliver. So, if you have a problem with the shipping fees, do not hesitate to message us, and we'll fix it there.

Why the Devoured Change? (And Further Changes!)
about 9 years ago – Wed, Feb 22, 2017 at 11:02:02 PM

Hey guys!  So, after our last pledge manager update, we got a ton of feedback from all of you about the changes we said we were making to the devoured effects in the game.  We just wanted to go into this a little more in-depth to give you a better idea of why we made this change.

We've been playtesting Deep Madness a lot.  Like, a LOT.  And during our playtests, we found that the random devoured effect didn't work so well a good portion of the time.  Sometimes it would even create negative experiences, such as messing up the board, slowing down the game, making the game board flipping less meaningful, and making the setup time more consuming.  The biggest problems we've been experiencing in the game, in fact, are all due to the devoured effect tokens.  After carefully considering our options, we decided to remove the feature and go back to an earlier design where the devoured effect was printed directly onto the game tiles.  This does remove some element of randomness, but it also brings a lot of benefits.  For instance, with the printed effects on the boards gameplay becomes more strategic, and room tiles have an easier time being thematic.

This is how we're doing it right now.  In the general rules of the game, each space of a room tile's devoured side will have a devoured effect printed onto it.  Once the room is flipped, players will need to decide to override one of the effects with the spawn marker (the spawn markers were not canned - only the devoured effect tokens), canceling its effect and replacing it with a spawn point.

However, we've heard your feedback loud and clear, so we will now be adding a variant rule that will keep the devoured effect tokens in the game's accessories, printed on the opposite sides of the spawn marker tokens.  So if you don't like the fixed effect, you can now choose a space to put a spawn marker after the room is flipped, and then fill up the other spaces with random devoured effect tokens.  So now we've got the best of both worlds: random if you want it, or streamlined if you don't.  Your choice.

Also, in our last post we mentioned that since we had removed the devoured effect tokens that the devour bag had become useless.  We then canceled it so that backers didn't have to spend unnecessary money.  But contrary to our expectations, there were a lot of backers who really liked the devour bag and were upset that we'd killed it.  Now, however, because we have implemented this variant rule, the devoured tokens are back and thus so is the bag!  We're thrilled that so many of you liked the bag, and so it is with great pleasure that we bring it back.

The pledge manager is coming very, very shortly, so keep your eyes glued to your inbox!

Pledge Manager Info!
about 9 years ago – Mon, Feb 20, 2017 at 10:42:01 PM

Hi, everyone!  As promised, here is the big pledge manager update!  Here’s what’s going on, and how everything is going to work!

PLEDGE MANAGER BREAKDOWN

The Pledge Manager and Late Pledge System will open on Thursday, Feb 23rd.

As we mentioned previously, we are using BackerKit as our PM.  We are finishing up preparations on the system, because this takes a ton of work.  We’ve been testing it to ensure nothing will go wrong, and things are looking better and better.  We plan to have the pledge manager open for about 2 months, but we may have to close it a little bit earlier if the manufacturing process requires it.  We’ll notify all of you a good while before it actually closes to ensure that you have time to finalize everything on your end.

Don’t know what a pledge manager is?  Basically, it’s a website that’s set up after a Kickstarter campaign to allow backers to complete their pledges.  You’ll be able to change your shipping information, let us know what your pledge went toward (core games, extras, etc.), and add additional items if you so choose.  You will also use the pledge manager to pay for shipping.  Once that’s done, you’ll lock down your pledge and we’ll know what to order for you from the manufacturer.  Should something change, though, you will be able to make changes to your pledge right up until the pledge manager closes (and you’ll still be able to alter your shipping address for a while after this happens – we’ll let you know before those will be locked down as well.)  Also, an important note: your credit card will not be charged until the pledge manager is locked down.  Just like with the Kickstarter campaign, you won’t pay anything until it’s all over.  Once we do lock down the pledge manager, your cards will be charged at that time.  Speaking of cards, BackerKit will support credit cards as well as PayPal if that’s more convenient for you.

Before long we’ll start sending out emails to all backers inviting them to the pledge manager through their own custom link.  We’ll also post an update when this begins so you’ll know to be looking for it.  Sometimes these invites can end up in your spam folder, so be sure to check that if you’re not seeing your invite after we let you know they’re going out.  Also, we’ll be checking the comments to answer questions about the pledge manager or the game before the PM closes.

When the PM is turned on, the Late Pledge system will be turned on at the same time.  (We’re going to use the pre-order system provided by BackerKit.)  When that happens, late pledge buttons will magically appear at the top of the Deep Madness Kickstarter page as well as on the Facebook page.  Keep an eye open for that, and be sure to spread the word when you see it!

One more quick note: if you supported us during the campaign but didn’t select a pledge level, please switch to either the $1 or $100 level when you get into the pledge manager.  Otherwise we may not be able to deliver your pledge.

GAME UPDATES

In addition to the pledge manager info, we had a couple of updates to give you about the actual game.  These are items that will affect a couple of add-ons in the pledge manager, so we wanted to make sure and get them to you with this update.

3D Submerged Markers. The submerged standee has now become a flooded token that you place in flooded room spaces.  We found this to be nicer and easier to understand in our extended testing.  Because of this, though, the 3D submerged marker add-on has been canceled, and the flooded token will instead appear in the plastic token pack.  Since the 3D pack will now only contain the 6 3D hatches, the price has been lowered to $6.  Already set aside $10 for the pack?  No worries.  The extra money can go toward shipping.

Devour Bag. The devoured effect and spawn point will now be printed directly on to the room tiles’ devoured sides, and we’re canning the devoured effect tokens and the spawn markers to simplify some steps.  This means that the devour bag add-on that could be used to shuffle and randomly pick a devoured effect token has been canceled, as it’s no longer applicable.  Once again, if you pledged to get this item don’t worry, there’s lots of other stuff it can go towards, including shipping costs.

Plastic Token Pack. With all of this in mind, the plastic token pack will now contain: activation marker, devour marker, wound tokens, sanity/madness tokens, slow/weaken tokens, success/D6 tokens, flooded tokens, objective markers, and broken lock tokens.  There’ll be more than 100 tokens in this pack.

Card Box. We have also redesigned the card boxes.  The upper and lower halves of the card box are now two identical holders instead of the previous cover and holder design.  The capacity has not changed, but it’s definitely cooler and more practical now.  We’re offering two sizes of card boxes: one for 41x63mm mini cards, and the other for 57x89mm bridge-sized cards (for production reasons, we will have to adjust our 59x92mm cards to 57x89mm.)  The card holder capacity is 220 cards without sleeves, or 140 cards with sleeves.

Last but certainly not least, as we mentioned in our previous update we have something special that we’ll be unlocking as the total rises thanks to late pledges and additional add-ons ordered! (Who says we can’t have pledge manager stretch goals?)  It’s just one more reason for you to get all of your friends to late-pledge!  We’ll have details coming on this after we open the pledge manager and late pledging.

That’s it for today, guys!  Keep your eyes open for that pledge manager, and thanks again for your incredible support!

Pledge Manager, Putrid, Substance and Darkraven!
about 9 years ago – Wed, Feb 15, 2017 at 11:11:54 PM

Hey everybody!  We hope you’ve been having a great week!

So, some of you have asked about the pledge manager, and what was going on with it.  Just kidding.  LOTS of you have asked about the pledge manager, and what was going on with it.  Well, guess what we’ve got information on today?

THE PLEDGE MANAGER

You have all been very patiently waiting for the pledge manager, and we appreciate it.  Now we would like to announce that the pledge manager will officially open next week!  We will be using BackerKit as our PM, and late pledging will be available on it.  We’ve also prepared some surprises in the form of PM stretch goals!  You heard that right!  So start talking to your friends now about pledging late!

Shortly we will release an important update with all of the details on the PM.  Keep your eyes peeled, because you’re not going to want to miss anything!

DARKRAVEN UPDATE

Darkraven’s Deep Madness Soundscapes currently has over $18,000 pledged!  They have now added three new stretch goals to the project: two new 15 minute loops at $22,000, a special effects pack at $25,000, and a custom-made Deep Madness theme song at $29,000!  This project has some incredibly creepy music and sound effects that would be perfect for your games of Deep Madness.  Please consider supporting them at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/618425218/deep-madness-horror-soundscapes-by-darkraven-europ today!

PUTRID

“What is that smell?”

Gagging, you cover your nose and mouth with your arm.  “Gah!  It’s like rotten eggs fell into a sewage treatment plant!  Where did --”

Then you see it.

The thing is like a gargantuan maggot or a massive oily nightmare caterpillar, its glistening, sticky stomach lined with dozens of small, stubby legs – each tipped with a vicious claw.  Slimy tentacles press out of the folds on its “head,” probing the air like tongues.  Its body undulates and spasms, then it vomits a thick green phlegm onto the corridor’s floor.  The ooze spatters over the steel grating and begins to hiss as it slowly digests the metal.  It’s acting like some kind of acid.

“That is just vile,” Emma Kruger says.  On impulse she raises her bolt gun, aiming dead-center on the thing’s greenish, semi-translucent mass.

“Wait,” you say.  “Maybe we shouldn’t shoot it if it drools acid --”

Too late.  Kruger fires round after round into the pulsating mass.  Each round punctures the soft flesh of the horror caterpillar, sending sprays of its internal fluids fanning around the corridor.  The thing quivers as the life fades from it, and then it erupts in a geyser of foul ichor.  Surprised yelps and gasps escape the mouths of your friends.  And, as the acrid substance begins to burn through your flesh, your exclamations of surprise turn to screams of torment.

Putrid is very aptly named.  It emits a horrible smell that permeates the area, its body covered in a rotting mud as its disgusting mass worms and writhes its way toward the investigators.  Its tentacles undulate as they slide in and out of their fleshy hood, accompanied by a steady stream of acrid bile it spews out.

Putrid’s acidic vomit can be deadly, but this threat is eclipsed by the nasty surprise it has in store for any investigator unlucky enough to actually kill it.  When it is finally taken out, Putrid’s body erupts in a cascade of corrosive liquid, dousing every investigator standing near it.  These investigators all instantly take a wound.

The moral of the story?  Avoid being near this horrid putrescence at all costs!

SUBSTANCE

Your teammates run screaming towards you, clutching their heads and covering their eyes as they stumble and stagger out of the corridor.

“What is it?” you ask.  “What’s wrong?”

Dr. Asimov is normally so put together.  That’s why it’s so jarring to see him collapse in front of you, a blubbering mess stuttering incoherent nonsense.  He glances at you with wild eyes, then scrambles past you, falling to his hands and knees before trying to regain his feet.

The snake-like conglomeration pulls itself out of the corridor, its body slithering over the grating as its arms grab onto whatever purchase they can find to help pull it along.  You realize with growing horror that the beast is a collection of people, each one fused into the others in one continuous mass.  Every one of its mouths is screaming in a ragged, unhinged discord, but that’s not the worst of its horrors.

As you continue to stare at the heaving, wriggling collage of people, you feel yourself being pulled towards it.  The world on all sides dims and swirls and ripples, and you find yourself being sucked into a roiling, fathomless chaos.  The closer it gets, the more you feel your mind fracturing, melting, dissolving inside your skull.  You feel something trickling out of your ears, and detachedly reach up with one hand to touch it.  Bringing your fingers in front of you, you see that the substance is grey.  Or is it pink?

Your friends are still screeching, and you think they might be turning on each other in their mad scramble to escape.  But it doesn’t matter to you now.  As the creature consumes you and you become a part of its substance, you watch as your world cracks open and the facility’s facade shatters.  Chaos is all that remains. Your mind is set adrift on a sea of clawing, cacophonous insanity, and your consciousness vaporizes into foam on the surface of churning, bedlam abyss.

Faintly, perhaps a universe away, your ears hear your shrieks joining the other souls trapped in this writhing, living hell.

“Please. . .  Kill us. . .”

Substance is the totem of madness.  He is a conglomeration of insanity, and a portal into chaos.  To be absorbed into Substance is to see things that would fracture even the strongest mind.

When Substance encounters investigators he will begin trying to consume them, and in so doing fuse them into himself.  He will pull investigators toward him, feeding on their growing madness, until at last it’s too late.  Substance can also affect the sanity of those who haven’t been absorbed yet, forcing them to turn on each other.

Substance is much like many families during the holiday season: many individuals brought together into one writhing chain of chaos.  And he so wants you to join them.

That’s it for today!  Keep your eyes out for the next exciting pledge manager update!
