In The Eyes Of Madness

Hi everyone!
In our previous update we announced a few more changes, and started a Kickstarter firestorm in the process. It seems a little bit like our backers have taken up arms, some championing the new changes, and others not so much. We've read every comment and message, and for our part we have mixed emotions: on the one hand we are saddened that we have disappointed some backers, and on the other hand, we are so grateful that you all are so passionate about Deep Madness!
Deep Madness is a story that's been consuming our minds for a very long time. We've seen it grow, and we've always known what we wanted it to be in the end. The problem is, we're not artists. We can't use a pen (or tablet - or clay) to bring our creatures to life.
When we saw the concept art in Wasteland 2, we were impressed by its deep and accurate expression and wanted to give Deep Madness have such art. Soon we established links with Chang Yuan, during which time Chang Yuan was exploring new directions with his art and rarely taking commercial jobs. We were incredibly grateful when, after meeting a few times , he promised to take on the art for Deep Madness.
The rest is history. We've all squirmed looking at the seemingly obscure, but very expressive and infectious works Chang Yuan's produced. Out of his understanding of the mad world we were creating, Chang Yuan fashioned these abstract, feverish works one after another, distorting the space, matter, and everything else in his art over and over again. We've been deeply impacted by his art (as have many of you), but reading the art of Chang Yuan is not easy. And that's where we have a problem, because the monster cards where his art is so front-and-center needs to be functional as well as beautiful. So after putting Chang Yuan's art on the monster cards, the drawbacks are pretty obvious:
It conflicts with other art in the game. The investigator art, the item art, the room tiles and other illustrations feature two very distinct kinds of artistic expression.
We plan to make an overall upgrade to the game UI, but it is difficult to match the monster illustrations and other art at the same time.
As we mentioned previously, in blind tests it was incredibly difficult for our testers to match the monster card to the monster model quickly and easily.
Thank you for giving us your trust from the beginning, but we do not want to avoid this problem: the original product we presented had a lot of immature aspects to it. After the Kickstarter campaign we talked with a lot of people in the industry, as well as the players involved in our playtests, and they all pointed out these problems.
We know how much some of you love the art of Chang Yuan, but there are a considerable number of backers who have expressed hope for a clearer monster card. The thing is, we don't want to split. We don't want to vote. We want to make sure all of our backers have the absolute best version of Deep Madness that we can create.
One place where Chang Yuan's distinct madness fits perfectly is in the rulebook and storybook. There it can really stand on its own, away from the clutter of a card's UI. Currently we are planning to pepper the rulebook with Chang Yuan's incredible work where it will still be easily accessible and still able to set the dark, brooding atmosphere of Deep Madness. But the fact remains that the monster cards need something different.
We wanted new illustrations that could suck players instantly into the Kadath facility, almost like you were watching the old classic sci fi/horror films. After several attempts, we decided to go with the new monster illustrations drawn by Joseph Diaz and his partner Guillem H. Pongiluppi, who have many years of experience in games, movies and TV shows like Game of Thrones, Warcraft, The Impossible, Biutifil, A Monster Calls, Sleepy Hollow, etc. Joseph also happens to be a huge Cthulhu fan, and he is ready to bring you some truly phenomenal art.
As you've seen over the past few weeks, we will always keep an open attitude. We will listen, we will change, and we will always strive to do better. Graphic design is still continuous improvement, and soon we'll be back with more awesome stuff to show you. But, in the meantime, thank you for being a part of Deep Madness. Thank you for your passion for this game. And thanks for your trust.
Respectfully,
The Deep Madness Team

Hi, investigators. It seems that the new art update has brought a lot of discussion. We will have a new update about it very soon.
Now, we'll bring you some good news.
PM SG No.2 Has Been Unlocked!
We have just unlocked the second PM SG, the Weird Statue. It's unlocked when the ordered number of Rise of Dagon expansion reached 3,500. The statue will automatically appear in every Investigator Pledge, you don't have to add it manually.
Sculpted by Stéphane Nguyen Van Gioi.

The Weird Statue will have some use in Rise of Dagon expansion, if you have the expansion. :)
The next SG will be revealed soon.
The Devour Marker Is Back
We decide to keep the original sculpted Devour Marker based on the image of Sphere. And we will improve it by adding more details. The new Cthulhuish sculpture will just be a gift for all the Lovecraftian Fans.
Some Frequently Asked Questions
How many card boxes do I need?
In the Core Game and all the Stretch Goals, there are 254 57x89mm standard bridge-sized cards (for production reasons, we will have to adjust our 59x92mm cards to 57x89mm.) and 145 41x63mm mini cards. Without sleeves: 2 large and 1 small boxes are needed; With sleeves, 2 large and 2 small boxes are needed.
If you also have the Rise of Dagon expansion (77 bridge-sized and 23 mini) and The Oracle's Betrayal expansion (77 bridge-sized and 21 mini), without sleeves, 2 large and 1 small boxes are needed; with sleeves, 3 large and 2 small are needed.
Please note, the number of cards in the final production may change a little bit, but not much. And the card boxes are not designed to be put into the game box.
I'm a $1 backer, why I have to pay shipping fee?
If you don't need anything, please switch your reward level to $0 Reward Level. The shipping fee is for the backers who are just interested in some add-ons. We are very grateful to you for your generous contribution. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Why the shipping fees in late pledge are lower?
Each late pledge order also has a basic shipping fee. The sum of the basic and the item's shipping fee is equal to the price in the PM. The basic shipping fee is to meet the needs of the backers who are just interested in some add-ons.
How can I edit my late pledge order?
Well, according to the system, you cannot edit your late pledge order directly. The only way to do this is cancel the order and start a new one. If you have used PayPal as payment method, please contact us before you cancel the order, we will have to initiate a refund first.
That's all for now. Wish you all have a nice day.
New Art Fashion

Hi, our dear backers. Some amazing news to share.
New Investigator Dashboard and Monster Card
We have been upgrading all the graphic designs for Deep Madness. Here is the new investigator dashboard. Now we can get all the character's information on a 70x120mm standard tarot-sized card, which means finding sleeves for them will never be a problem. As you noticed, investigators will have starting equipment, and each investigator's ability will have its own name.

Monster Fashion
Sometimes to stay relevant and up-to-date in today's constantly changing world of fashion, one has to change with the times. And Deep Madness's monsters are no exception. With that fact in mind, we are very excited to tell you that Deep Madness's monster art has a new style! Let's take a look at some of our fashion-forward monstrosities as they strut their stuff!
Ravenous.
Agony.
Hysteria.
Husk.
Mind Eaters.
Delirium.
Blind.
Putrid.
Twisted.
So, some of you might be wondering, "Why would you do this?" Well, remember when we said that we had been playtesting a lot? Through a large number of blind tests, we found that with the abstract style monster art we previously featured on cards and game materials it was easy for our testers to be confused as to which monster they were actually looking at (we do have a total of more than 40 kinds of monsters, after all!) So we've had to reconsider the monster art. I hope you like these new horrible, disgusting, and wonderful pieces of art.
But what of Chang Yuan's incredible illustrations that have become such a part of Deep Madness? Not to fear, they will still appear in the rulebook and Art Book. His art's not going away: it's just that in trying to make the absolute best game we can for the most people we can, we had to make the incredibly tough decision to not feature it as front-and-center on the actual game components as we previously had planned.
That's it for now. Thanks again for your incredible support!
New Shipping Fees for Czech, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia

– Sat, Feb 25, 2017 at 11:08:45 PM
Hi, dear backers from Czech, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia,
The Core Game shipping fees for Czech, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia have been reduced from $50 to $35. Base on our experience as backers of other campaigns, the former price is a bit unfair for these four. So, we decided that Diemension Games will swallow the difference for you.
For the backers who have already completed the survey in the PM:
If you have used credit card as payment method, the balance has been updated automatically, you don't need to do anything. If you have paid with PayPal, don't worry. We have already initiated the refund, all you have to do is get into the PM and pay again at a lower price.
