Shipping Update, The Final (Component) Contest, and More!

Good day to you, Deep Madness backers! (I say good day, sir!)
We've got a pretty exciting update for you all. First, though, we need to discuss last week's contest! As we've had every week, there were some truly fantastic entries. I would have nominated several if I could have. But I've only got one package to give away, so this week it's going to MonkeyMagic. MonkeyMagic said the scalpel was the best card, and then went on to describe an absolutely epic gaming session they had where the scalpel (and some great dice rolls) literally saved the game for them. Plus, MonkeyMagic ended the post with a line that sounded straight out of a joke I've heard (normally referencing Mimics or Decepticons), which I think could be applied to Deep Madness. Here's my take on it: "My wife asked me why I was carrying around my chainsaw scalpel again. I said it was because I was afraid of madness sneaking in to devour our house. She laughed, I laughed, the Deep Madness game box laughed, I stabbed the game box, it was a good time." All that to say, congratulations, MonkeyMagic!
We'll have one final component contest for you to win the big new stuff from the reprint campaign, which you will find below. Next week, we'll have something more exciting to expose.
US - The day you have all been waiting for has come - and then went. We can officially confirm that US shipping has, at long last and after several false starts, begun! Quartermaster had sent out over 800 as of yesterday, so we're assuming that pace has continued today. In a tweet to me today they said that they expected fulfillment to continue into next week, but even after everything has shipped it still has to get to you. (Obviously.) So expect this process to wrap up within three weeks. We've asked them to keep tweeting on their Twitter to keep us all updated on the process, which they seem to be pretty good about anyway. You can follow along with them at https://twitter.com/QMLogistics.
Canada - We've received word that shipping will begin early next week. Snakes and Lattés will be taking care of the shipping for you all. Judging by the fact that we are hearing shipping should begin next week, we're assuming this means they are not using Canadian Post, what with the strike scheduled to start next Monday. However, we can neither confirm nor deny this as of yet.
EU and Rest of the World - The final shipments for both of these regions apparently went out today! How about that, huh? Now, if you haven't heard anything yet, still don't panic. It could take up to two weeks for these packages to reach you (maybe longer for the Rest of the World, depending.) Also, tracking number emails are not the most reliable things, so if you haven't gotten one, first of all check your spam folder, and next of all hold tight. If you are concerned or have issues with shipping, you can drop a line to [email protected] and they'll get you taken care of.
Asia and Australia - Delivery to both of these regions completed a while ago. If you haven't received anything yet, send a message to [email protected].

MORE VIDEOS
We have a couple more videos for you today. First of all is a review from Mike at One Stop Co-Op Shop, which we were extremely humbled to receive from him.
-
Mike also posted a text review of DM, which you can find here: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2075653/5-five-deep-madness-text-review. In the text review, he happens to say, "At the moment, I would put it pretty easily above many of the dungeon crawlers I've been playing, despite them having a true campaign with character progression. I would take Deep Madness over Descent or Imperial Assault with the app, over Sword and Sorcery, over Gears of War (which the game is quite similar to in a lot of ways), over most games in its category." And, no, we didn't pay him to say that. =) Honestly, we were kind of stunned and incredibly humbled by his review. So give it a watch/read and a like to help him out!
Next, we have a couple more unboxings from Rolling Solo for Oracle's Betrayal and Rise of Dagon:

Next, here's a couple of painting videos we found. (Many thanks to James Alexander for sending his minis over to Watch It Paint It! He made the first video possible!)

LAST COMPONENT CONTEST - CONSCIOUSNESS AND MADNESS CARDS!
This is it, friends: your last chance to win a copy of the two big new items from the reprint, The Faces of the Sphere expansion and the new novel Deep Madness: Shattered Seas, strictly from chatting about game components! This week, we're going to look at two sets of cards: the consciousness cards and the madness cards!
We originally were going to divide this into two contests, but we realized some of you wouldn't want to participate to avoid spoilers, and that the cards might not be enough by themselves to warrant a ton of discussion. (Plus, it then frees us up to do something else fun next week.) So, we combined the two into one über contest!
Obviously both of these decks are pretty near and dear to my heart. Here are some factoids:
First of all, in case you weren't aware, consciousness cards = good; madness cards = bad.
The consciousness cards are divided into several stories that inform you of what took place before you arrived in Kadath. Chances are, you won't get those stories in order (unless you specifically read through them in order - or don't shuffle very well,) but piecing those stories together is part of the fun. It's basically like audio logs or voxophones in video games like Dead Space, Bioshock, or Alien: Isolation.
Each consciousness card story has a unique and positive effect that will help you during the game. This effect applies to all cards in that one story.
There are 40 consciousness cards in the core game, and 20 each in the Oracle's Betrayal and Rise of Dagon.
You receive a consciousness card when a killed monster's madness rating is greater than the number of sanity tokens you have. For instance, if a monster has a madness rating of two and you have one sanity token, you would flip that one sanity token over to its madness side, and then you would also draw one consciousness card. You can also get them when you are playing with Jacob Clarke (or John Murdock), who is kind of like a consciousness card candy dispenser.
Madness cards are individual stories that explain what is happening to you inside Kadath, right at that moment. I had a great deal of fun writing these. You will not have a great deal of fun receiving them. Thus, madness cards are one of the few things I've written that I'm very proud of and will still tell you to never pick up.
Each madness card has its own very nasty effect, which the story helps to emphasize.
You get a madness card any time you have three madness tokens, at which point you then discard those three tokens. (Unless a card or effect specifically says otherwise.)
There are 40 madness cards in the core box, 23 in Endless Nightmares, 2 in Uncounted Horrors, 5 in Rise of Dagon, and 8 in The Oracle's Betrayal.
Here are those cards for you to take a look at, in your language of choice:
So, let's discuss. What's your favorite consciousness card? What's your favorite consciousness card story? What madness card do you like the most, or are the most afraid of? What questions do you have about the way the cards work or their effects? (If you're wanting to avoid spoilers, by the way, you don't have to tackle all of the questions mentioned here. FYI. ;)
As before, one lucky winner on Kickstarter or Facebook will receive a copy of the two big new items in the reprint campaign (The Faces of the Sphere expansion and the new novel Deep Madness: Shattered Seas), whether he or she otherwise participates in the reprint campaign or not. (You will still have to wait for us to make the stuff, though. =D) Let the comments fly!
Shipping, Facebook Group, Contest #5, and More Videos!

Hey all! Another week has come, the madness has continued to spread, and we are back with another update.
First of all, let's crown a winner from our last contest. As with the previous ones, there were some incredible posts and we loved reading them all! Thanks for being a part of it if you commented! This was also another week that had some very close competition. But we can only have one winner. So, we are very pleased to announce that this week's winner is Oihan! Why? Two reasons. First of all, I will never look at Obscure the same way again. (Does it look to anyone else like the Jabberwocky? Well, it does to Oihan. And now to me.) And, second of all, Oihan brought up the Big Daddies from Bioshock in regards to the Collectors, and there's a very big soft spot in my heart for the Big Daddies from Bioshock. (Oihan also had some really good reasons for liking both Despair and Devourer of Worlds.) So congratulations, Oihan!
Didn't win this week? No worries! There's still several more opportunities coming up for you to get a free copy of the new expansion and the new novel from the upcoming reprint campaign. See below for this week's chance!
A couple weeks ago we mentioned the community-driven Facebook group that a few of our backers have been running. Well, we’ve been talking with the guys over there, and we’ve decided to officially link it to the Deep Madness Facebook page. Which I guess kind of makes it the official Deep Madness group now. =) If you’re looking for a great community with great people all focused around everything DM, you should check it out.
There’s tons of painted minis popping up on there, there’s some great tips and tricks from people who’ve been playing, and there’s battle reports on there as well from people’s games. Plus, you'll very likely see a few Diemension Games employees skulking around on there from time to time. (For example, if you happen to see an unassuming, mild-mannered person named Roger Ho on there humbly offering game advice that he happened to find on page 26 of the rulebook, don't let him fool you. That's actually the game designer for Deep Madness, as well as the CEO and creative director for Diemension Games. And just like that, his cover's blown. =D)
This group is quickly becoming the "it" place for Deep Madness (no relation to the clown), so we highly recommend you head over there and join if you haven't already. You can find it at www.facebook.com/groups/1212223532134342/. We hope to see you there!

SHIPPING
Canada - The Canadian orders are through customs and are now in their warehouse. These should hopefully go out to you all soon.
US - Last week we were told that shipping had started and that you guys would begin getting packages early this week, with many more going out from then on. In our excitement, we passed that information along to you. Then, on Monday, we learned that there are still other products waiting on the line in the Quartermaster warehouse. So we contacted them to figure out when our products will be sent out. The answer we got is that it will still be this week, but we don't know exactly when.
Truthfully, guys, this kind of hit us like a ton of bricks. Obviously QML's pipeline is busy, and all we can do at this point is wait for news. But we hate being in this powerless position where there is so little we can do, apart from continually calling, emailing, and harassing. They have all of the goods and all of the money, so we have very little leverage to make anything move faster at this point.
In the past few weeks we wanted to keep updating you with the latest news about the shipping process. However, every time we've done that (at least for the US) we've come out looking like liars. As a company that prides itself on trying to always be honest and transparent, this is something we can't continue to do. It's pretty close to torture for us knowing you all have had to wait for weeks, and that your hope (and ours) has been dashed so many times. In that spirit of honesty, we actually paid far more than was collected from backers for this shipping, and it maddens us to no end that we still haven't been able to provide you with justice and satisfaction.
We will continue to fight until every last shipment arrives to you, but from now on we will only update on the shipping process when we have hard evidence that something has happened. We've learned our lesson, and we refuse to either give you false hope to yet again be ripped away or to continue to get mud on our faces from unintentionally feeding you false information. In other words: the next update you get from us on shipping will be when we have hard proof that packages are shipping, and not just when someone has told us something to mollify us. Please accept our sincere apologies for this continued delay. We know this is beyond frustrating for you, because it sure is for us. Having said that, hopefully we will still receive solid evidence that shipping has begun this week, and be able to pass that along to you once we're certain it's happened.
EU, Australia, Asia, and Rest of the World - There's nothing new to report. Everything keeps rolling along.

MORE VIDEOS
There has been a whole slew of videos coming in recently, and we thought we'd pass them on to you. Many of them are not in English, but for our German, Spanish, and Italian backers, this should be a treat.
First of all, though, is a how-to-play video from our friend Lance over at Learn to Play. We hope you enjoy it:

NEW CONTEST - SEARCH CARDS
We are slowly working through just about every major part of Deep Madness. Today might not be as "glamorous" as the monsters or as "endearing" as the investigators, but we challenge you to get through a game without a few of them. Plus, some of them have a certain charm all their own. (Here's looking at you, heavy miner suit and "scalpel" that looks like a chainsaw.)
Here are the search cards in the language of your choice:
There are 75 search cards in the investigator pledge (50 in the core box, 18 in Endless Nightmares and 7 in Uncounted Horrors.)
There are an additional 8 more in Rise of Dagon and 8 in Oracle's Betrayal.
Each search card has its own unique mechanics and abilities, just like the investigators and monsters.
Every search card is a "good" card. What we mean by this is that, every time you pick up a search card, it will be useful. There are no nasty traps, no aggravating attacks, or negative effects in the search deck. There’s enough of those in other places. =)
You'll find three main kinds of cards in the search deck: weapons, items, and abilities.
A few of the biggest, coolest search cards even have their own miniatures!
Now, let's discuss. What's your favorite search card? Why is it your favorite? What questions do you have about cards? One lucky commenter on either Kickstarter or Facebook will win a prize pack featuring the two flagship items from the next campaign: the new novel Deep Madness: Shattered Seas, and the expansion The Faces of the Sphere! You will receive these whether or not you otherwise participate in the new campaign. (Though you'll still have to wait for us to deliver said rewards with everyone else. =) Let the comments commence!
Quick US Shipping Update
– Sat, Oct 06, 2018 at 01:59:01 AM
Hey everyone! We just have a quick US shipping update before we return you to your regularly scheduled Friday.
We have received word that the first batch of US shipments have officially been mailed! EXCELSIOR!!! The waiting is finally coming to an end, friends!
Now, because we're about to go into the weekend, the first shipments will likely reach people's front doors early next week. But, nonetheless, the process has, at long last, begun!
We had a talk with our shipping company about the process. And, as some have surmised, we learned that, our shipper Nift do hire QML facility to do the job, and there were other large orders that came into the warehouse just before or around the same time as us, pushing us back in the line a bit. (This was likely why they had to move stuff to a different warehouse, too.) They are aware of our (and your) displeasure at the situation, and they assure us they're trying to speed up their process.
Pick and pack process at the QML warehouse.

It seems like the shipping process is so often one of the toughest times during a Kickstarter, when all of our nerves get raw, we all get super excited, we just want to get our stuff already (or get your stuff out, in our case), and then we all still have to sit… and wait… and are largely powerless to do anything about any last-second issues that arise. (That's certainly been my experience in the past with projects I've backed, at least.) So thank you for staying with us and for your patience during this. We very much appreciate it. We've said it before and I'm sure we'll say it again, but you all really are the best. (And that goes for the whole community, too, not just our US friends.)
Speaking of everyone else, there isn't too much to report that hasn't been said already. Canadian orders are still in customs. EU delivery continues. Australian delivery continues. Asian delivery is finishing up. And the rest of the world is waiting for the EU to finish. (Which should hopefully be soon.)
We'll talk to you again early next week with a new contest, a new winner, and, hopefully, some more really good shipping news. See you then.
A Monstrous Contest, How-to-Play Videos and Shipping!
– Wed, Oct 03, 2018 at 01:01:32 AM
Hey all! Hope you had a good weekend. We have more shipping info, new videos, and a new contest for you all today. Let's get going!
But first of all, we need to crown a winner from last week's contest! Man there were some good entries, and this was another really close one. But, in the end, the winner for this last week went to Jordan Adams. Jordan's entry was very well-reasoned with some very good illustrations of why he liked different investigators for different situations, and he also made me dream about a Deep Madness movie starring Ron Pearlman. Which, apparently, is enough to sway me. Congratulations, Jordan! =D
Having said that, we still have several weeks of contests planned for you all, so you still have plenty of chances to win! Keep commenting, everyone! Your chance could be next!
SHIPPING
More and more people across the world keep getting deep in the madness, guys! Here's where we're currently at:
North America - As we announced late last week, the Canadian orders took a truck up north. They have made it into Canadian customs, and we are waiting to receive word if they've been released yet or not. And, for all of our US backers, the news you've been waiting for: the warehouse will begin shipping out packages this week.
EU - The delivery process continues unabated. Nothing much to report here. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before all of the EU is completed, but that hasn't happened yet. If you haven't received yours yet, it's still not time to panic. =)
Asia - Also as announced late last week, Asian orders have all been sent out! If you haven't received notification or a delivery, though, don't worry yet. Asia's a pretty immense region and tracking numbers aren't always the most reliable things, so yours is likely still on its way. It'll be another week to two weeks before everything arrives safely in Asia.
Australia - Australian orders are going out as we speak, and we've received confirmation of people receiving them! Woohoo! This process will take 2-3 weeks to finish up, so don't worry if you haven't heard anything yet.
Rest of the World - Still nothing to report here, guys. Hopefully we'll have some news very, very soon about yours being airmailed to you.
-
GAMEPLAY VIDEOS
We still have one of these that we have in the works ourselves, but in the meantime we wanted to show you these awesome videos from our friend Mike over at One Stop Co-Op Shop! (Honestly, I think his are better than ours will be anyway.) Plus, if you've been wondering if it's possible to win that first scenario, here's a little bit of hope. =) Enjoy!

CONTEST #4 - THE MONSTERS!
EEEEK! It's time to take a look at the monsters of Deep Madness!
Investigators are nice and all, but we know why you're actually here: the monsters! So, without further ado, let's get into the real stars of DM.
Let's take a look at some monster cards! (Scenario-specific monsters are not included.)
The DM series has designed 28 common monsters and 14 Epic Monsters.
Each monster has a completely different skillset (or AI) from every other monster, meaning no two monsters behave (or are killed) the same. It's almost like they have their own personalities, and you need to get to know them. (After all, it's rude to judge something before you know it.)
There are two different cards for each of the Epic Monsters who are featured in a scenario: one that is scenario-specific, and one that can be used in any scenario.
Monsters change their behaviors and become more powerful in devoured rooms, adding or enhancing their abilities.
While the human activation lineup constantly shifts, the monsters always remain stationary, allowing you to plan ahead - but also potentially punishing you if you don't.
If you kill a monster while there are sanity tokens on your investigator card, then you will flip one of your sanity tokens for each point of horror the monster has over to become a madness token, as your mind can't handle the horror that you've just seen. Alternatively, though, if you don't have sanity tokens when you need to flip them after you kill a monster, then you will be rewarded with consciousness cards.
The monsters will never stop coming. You will never kill them all. For this reason, it's sometimes better to run for your goal rather than to stay and fight, because the very monsters you just killed may come right back during the spawn phase. However, that doesn't mean there aren't still some times where you need to lock, load, and mow down some uglies.
Monsters can trap you in a space when their combined trap ratings equal or exceed your escape rating. So, if your escape rating is a four, all it takes are an Agony and a Delirium to keep you right where you are.
Monsters can often still be slowed, weakened, or paralyzed, though it works slightly differently than with investigators. Still, it's good to know you can at least hinder their progress.
So, let's discuss. What's your favorite monster? Why is it your favorite monster? What questions do you have about monster abilities or the way a monster functions? And, remember, one lucky commenter will win the two flagship items from our Kickstarter reprint campaign: the new novel Deep Madness: Shattered Seas, and the new expansion The Faces of the Sphere, whether you otherwise participate in the reprint or not. The only caveat is that you will, of course, have to wait for your prize to be delivered when we deliver the reprint pledges.
We'll talk with you all again soon. But, in the meantime, good luck and get commenting!
Another Short Shipping Update
– Fri, Sep 28, 2018 at 02:20:40 AM
Hey everyone! Sorry again for so many updates in such a short time, but we got some more shipping information and wanted to pass it along to you.
North America - We have been in contact with our shipping partner yesterday and today, and they are getting very close to beginning to send out packages for the US. Stuff should start rolling out by next week. Having said that, we have some very good news for our Canadian friends! We've received word that the Canadian orders have already been loaded on a truck, and are on their way north right this minute! Now, we don't want to get too out of control here: it still has to get through Canadian customs, and then it has to be dispatched to you from the warehouse. But, with cautious optimism, these could get started rolling out to you (assuming everything goes very well) late next week or the week after!
They also wanted to let us know some of what has been going on, and to explain why it has taken this long to get everything started in the US. Some of this is probably miscommunication, and a mishandling of expectations - a problem that was exacerbated by the fact that, through some incredible good fortune, they were able to start shipping EU orders within a few days of them arriving at the warehouse. However, they say there is normally an average setup/sorting time of 1-2 weeks, and this was not helped along by the fact that the US customs also released containers one by one to them over a period of time (plus the other issues that arose.) All of that to say, we get the impression that they are really trying to make this right, and they really want to do the best they can for all of us. We have no reason to believe they are actively trying to screw us (or you) over at this point. So, let's give them the benefit of the doubt for a few more days. We should start hearing about shipping notifications very shortly, and we're going to keep on them until every last package has been delivered.
EU - European orders continue with nothing to comment on. If you haven't gotten yours yet, don't panic! They're still working on them, so there's no reason to think yours isn't coming soon.
Asia - All Asian orders have officially been sent out! Woohoo! Now, having said that, if you haven't received yours, don't worry! Asia is a pretty big place, and it could be up to another two weeks before all of the packages arrive. Furthermore, tracking emails are fickle things, so I wouldn't stress out if you haven't gotten one of those yet, either. In short, hold tight - yours has been shipped!
Australia - Australian orders are through customs! They should start shipping early next week! Score!
Rest of the World - As we mentioned a couple of days ago, these will be airmailed out after the EU orders are all finished. So hopefully it won't be too much longer before you get yours!
